We designed a custom typeface for MUXI as the core of its new identity. The design traces back to the etymology, bridging Eastern heritage with the vitality of contemporary art.
The typography captures a dual kinetic energy: the upward and spreading, resilient growth of branches and sprouts (Mù), and the inward-to-outward radiation of dawn light (Xī).
Mù / Wood, Organic softness and resilience
Xī / Dawn, Inclusive and potent energy
Developing from a hybrid prototype of Song and Hei, the design pairs a compact center of gravity with stretching strokes, letting the negative space define the glyph structure. Infusing the poetic emotion of Serif typography with the clean modernity of Sans-serif, it delivers a warm, meticulous visual balance.
To subtly honor its Eastern roots, the horizontal terminals feature a crisp cut inspired by traditional mitre tenon joints—introducing a subtle imprint of craftsmanship into the contemporary letterforms.
